Why do only some of the plant cells exposed to a particular [hormone] respond?
Solution
hormones present in the plants act as growth regulators. in plants hormones acta s signal producers which target to a particular region and helps in the growth of that particular regoin. hormones are produced in small quantities in one part and then they transfer to the targeted region and acts accordingly in that region and hence help in the development of the plant of that particualr region. hence plant cells exposed to hormones respond diffrently. this process takes place through signaling pathways.
eg:the hormones that are involves in the growth of the plant are auxins, cytokinins, gibberellins, brassinosteroids and oligosaccharides, ethylene and abscisic acid.
-auxin helps in stem elongation, formation of roots
-cytokinins help in stimulation of cell division but only along with the presence of auxin
-gibberellins help in stimulatipn of enzyme production in germinating seeds
-brassinosteroids helps auxins and cytokinins functioning
-oligosaccharides helps in pathogen defence
-ethylene helps in control of leaf,flower and fruit abscission and also in fruit ripening
-abscisic acis helps in the inhibition of bud growth
