In its 2014 -18 Strategic Plan, the USDA committed to improving agricultural techniques and technologies including biotechnology. How does the agency propose to achieve this goal? Where in the plan is this topic addressed? (At a minimum, provide strategic goal number).
Solution
Biotechnology regulatory strategic plan
The implementation of biotechnology for agriculture is where the plants are genetically modified in order to develop more plant species which are disease resistant, higher in yield and provide a better quality of fruits and vegetable produce. Such changes are introduced within a plant by introduction of a foreign DNA which modifies the plant\'s genome in order to achieve the above. Such techniques are a part of molecular biology and can also be termed as modern day biotechnology.
USDA plays a major role in such a way, that it assures that the plants and products derived by genetic modification are safe to be grown and consumed in the United States.
Goal 3: To help America promote agricultural production and biotechnology exports as America works to increase food security. To achieve this goal the following strategies are being put in action for a systematic work .
The strategic plan FY 2014-2018, Strategic Plan 3, objectives are as follows:
1. To ensure that US agricultural resources contribute to enhanced global food security
2. To enhance America\'s ability to develop and trade agricultural products derived from new and emerging technologies.
