Whats wrong Explain what is wrong with each of the following
What’s wrong? Explain what is wrong with each of the following.
a) The margin of error for a confidence interval used for an opinion poll takes into account the fact that people who did not answer the poll questions may have had different responses from those who did answer the questions.
b) If the P-value for a significance test is 0.35, we can conclude that the null hypothesis has a 35% chance of being true.
c) A student project used a confidence interval to describe the results in a final report. The confidence level was 110%.
Solution
a) the non-response rate takes the usual sample without any bias in order to estimate the polls, the margin of error for a confidence interval used that the results must not be biased
b) The statement is not true, since with the P-value equal to 0.35, we cannot conclude that the null hypothesis has a chance of 35% being true, null hypothesis chance of being true can vary from any value between the range
c) The confidence level cannot exceed 100%, the value must lie between 0-100% for any value of hypothesis, hence the given observation by the student is incorrect
