Immunology question Describe the B cell receptor for antigen

Immunology question: Describe the B cell receptor for antigen- what is the relationship between the Ig molecule and the BCR? What is the structure of the BCR?

Solution

B cell receptor is a transmembrane receptor responsible for carrying out signal transduction. It is present on the outer surface of B lymphocytes. BCR activity is required for antibody production.

The Ig (immunoglobulin) molecule is bound to the B cell receptor.

Structure- There are two parts of the B cell receptor- i) an immunoglobulin molecule bound to the membrane ii) signal transduction moiety comprising of a heterodimer bound by disulphide bridges.
