Criminology Question!!!???
Discuss your ideas about victimology precipitation theory. Is this theory valuable in providing a better understanding of the offender/victim relationship? Is it insensitive to victims? Why?/Why not?
Solution
Victimology Precipitation theory says that the victim can also initiate or can be responsible for provoking the criminal (by his unconscious acts) for doing crime. For example, if a robber targets a shop for robbery, the immediate shouting of shopkeeper due to nervousness may provoke the robber to take out pistel and shoot him , just to make him silent, so that nobody else can come to know about robber\'s presence in the shop. So, the act of shouting and shock initiated by the shopkeeper provoked the robber to kill the shopkeeper.
Yes, this theory undergoes into the reason behing a crime and indeed it provides better understanding of the cause of crime. We can say, this theory explores the reason behind a crime\'s occurence only, which is correct. We cannot put it in the category of being insensitive towards victims. It is the indepth study of why small incidents sometimes turn into big mishaps. Not completely, but to some extent, the victim is imperfect in dealing with immediate fear that he feels on seeing a criminal.
