Name the two major stages of the skin healing process. What types of cells are involved in the first stage? And, what are involved in the second stage?

Solution

Wound healing (in general healing) is typically divided into four phases Viz., hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. Each of these phases relies on each other. Hence a new model has been recently been described clearly.

According to new model, healing process is divided into two major phases, early phase and cellular phase.

In early phase, platelets are involved in forming hemostasis. The main objective of this phase involves stopping bleeding.

In cellular phase, numerous cells primarily the inflammatory cells such as macrophages, neutrophils etc work together to build up an inflammatory response, synthesize granulation tissue, and restore the epithelial layer.
