Nicole invested her savings in two investment funds. The amount she invested in Fund A was $3000 less than the amount she invested in Fund B. Fund A returned a 4% profit and Fund B returned a 7% profit. How much did she invest in Fund A, if the total profit from the two funds together was $870 ?

Solution

Let amount invested in fund A be $ x

amount invested in fund be B be $y

x = y - 3000

x -y = -3000 -----(1)

Profit from fund A = 0.04x

Profit from fund B = 0.07y

0.04x + 0.07y = 870 -----(2)

On solving we get x = $6000 ( fund A)

y = $ 9000 (fund B)
