Solve the given equation for x x2 jx 6 0 This is 63 Exerc

Solve the given equation for x:       x2 - jx + 6 = 0

This is #63, Exercises 12.1 Basic Technical Mathmatics with Calculus

The book gives the possible answers as -2j, 3j

Solution

  by quadratic formula roots of ax2+bx +c =0 are x=[-b+(b2-4ac)]/(2a),x=[-b-(b2-4ac)]/(2a)

x2 - jx + 6 = 0 ,j=-1

x=[-(-j)+((-j)2-4*1*6)]/(2*1),x=[-(-j)-((-j)2-4*1*6)]/(2*1)

x=[ j+(-1-24)]/(2),x=[ j-(-1-24)]/(2),

x=[ j+(-25)]/(2),x=[ j-(-25)]/(2),

x=[ j+5j]/(2),x=[ j-5j]/(2),

x=6j/2,x=-4j/2

x =3j , x =-2j

so x =-2j , 3j are the solutions

Solve the given equation for x: x2 - jx + 6 = 0 This is #63, Exercises 12.1 Basic Technical Mathmatics with Calculus The book gives the possible answers as -2j,
