Lorcaserin and weigh loss A doubleblind randomized comparati
Lorcaserin and weigh loss. A double-blind randomized comparative experiment compare the effect 0f the drug locaserin and a placebo on weight loss in overweight adults. All subject also underwent diet and exercise counseling the study reported that after one year, patients in the lorcaserin group had an average weight loss of 5.8 kilograms (kg), while thode on the placebo had an average weight loss of 2.2 kg (P< 0.001). Explain to someone who knows no statistics why these results mean that there is good reason to think that lorcaserin works. Iinclude an explanatio of what P<0.001 means
Solution
In the same conditions, the group that uses Lorcaserin has significantly greater averge weight than the group that was on the placebo. Average weight loss means, in the group that had Lorcaserin we can assume that each person has 5.8 kg of weight loss and in the group that was on placebo we can assume that each person has 2.2 kg of weight loss. So it gives good reason to think that lorcaserin works.
P<0.001 means that the statitics test we conduct has p value less than 0.001. So we reject the null hypothesis. Means accept the alternative hypothesis. That is sample support the fact that Lorcaserin works.
