Phyllis invested 6500065000 dollars, a portion earning a simple interest rate of 55 percent per year and the rest earning a rate of 77 percent per year. After one year the total interest earned on these investments was 39303930 dollars. How much money did she invest at each rate?

At rate 55 percent :
At rate 77 percent

Solution

Let phyliss invest $ x at @ 55%

and remainingg $(6500065000 -x) at  at @ 77%

Simple interes - principal*rate*time/100

So, S.I (1) = x*55*1/100 = 0.55x

S.I. (2) = (6500065000 -x)*77*1/100

= (6500065000 -x)0.77

Total interest = 0.55x +(6500065000 -x)0.77 = 39303930 ( interest after one year)

solve for x:

-0.22x = -4965746120

So, x= $22571573272.73 invested at @ 55%
