People can be seen as a biopsychosocial system, in which biological, psychological, and social-cultural factors interact, which influences the behavior of a person. Studying this system lets us understand behavior through multiple levels of analysis. At biological level, the organs are composed of various cells such as neurons. These further form large organ systems such as circulatory system, digestive system, respiratory systems etc. At psychological level, the thoughts results in individual behavior by interacting with the biology and past of a person. The time and place where an individual lives, and surrounding environment, forms the social-cultural level. The study of biopsychosocial system comprising these levels helps us to understand behavior.

The neural system of other animals are much similar to that of humans. Studies on other animals are simple and feasible compared to that on humans and provides good results, thus, studying their neural processes helps researchers to get clues about human processes which are fruitful.
