Specific energy per unit mass of flowing fluid can be expres
Specific energy (per unit mass) of flowing fluid can be expressed as h + 1/2 V^2 + gz, where h is specific enthalpy (J/kg), vis velocity (m/s), g is gravitational acceleration (m/s^2) and z is elevation (m). Show that all three terms have same (consistent) units.
Solution
h = J/ KG = Nm /KG
Newton is unit of force ,
force = mass * accelaration = mass * metre / sec ^2
unit of mass is KG
unit of metre is m
force = kg * m/s2
SO h = J/ KG = Nm /KG = KG m2 / ( s2 * KG ) == m2 /s2
so unit of h is m2 /s2
v 2 = m2 /s2
g*z = (m/s2) * m = m2 /s2
so we observed all units are same
