Calculate the size of compressed air tank needed to run an experiment for 1 hour while maintaining at least 120 PSI tank pressure

Solution

The size of an air receiver can be calculated as follows: V= T x C x Pa/ (P1- P2)

Where, P1 is maximum operating pressure(PSI)

P2 is MIn. operating pressure(PSI)

T- total time of running(min)

C- Volumetric flow rate(cpm)

Pa-atm. pressure(14.5PSI)

Here C and P1 needs to be assume,

From STANDARD guidelines, Max. Operating pressure for SIngle stage compreesor is P1=1.10P2(for single stage compressor)

Here P1=132PSI

V=60 x C x 14.5/(132-120)

V=72.5 x C ft3........................C-Discharge ,cpm
