Gentic drift is a evolutionary process, where change in the population because of sampling error in selecting the allele for the next generation from the gene pool of current generation. although genetic drift occurs in population of all sizes but the effect tend to stronger in small population.

The basic example of this is bottleneck effect in which if any natural calamity happens like earthquake, fire and flood leading to maas destruction of the population leaving behind very smaal set of population with very less number of variation in that means only very few kind of species are left behind. this phenomena is known as the bottleneck effect.
