(a) If the odds against the Eagles winning the Super Bowl are 5 to 3, then find the probability of the Eagles winning the Super Bowl. 025 A 513-8 If 4 people are randomly selected, find the probability that they all have the same birthday We randomly select a person at random. Use subjective probability to estimate: P(select a man, given that the person has hair longer than 10 inches) (c)

(a)

Two events are said to be mutually exclusive when occurence of one event is not influenced by the other event and both events do not occur at the same time. In fact this definition is not restricted for two events only, it can be generalised for n events.

This concept is used in calculating the probability of events when they are mutually exclusive.

(b)

Discrete:- number of students present in any class is a discrete random variable since it can be only measured in multiple of 1\'s.

Continuous:- Height of students present in any class is a continous random variable.

(c)

Two events are said to be independent when probability that one event occurs does not affect the probability of happening of other event.

This concept is used in case of conditional probability.

(d)

If A and B are independent events then the probability(A , given B) = P(A) * P(B)
