When it comes to hypothesis testing is there a way to deciph

When it comes to hypothesis testing, is there a way to decipher how to read the problem and be able to articulate the Null and Alternative hypothesis? I have trouble knowing how to set it up. The Math part I have , it\'s getting the two hypothesis. I can never tell how to set it up.

The below is an example:

Donald likes red M&Ms. Daisy likes yellow M&Ms. Donald is convinced that there are fewer red M&Ms than yellow M&Ms. To investigate, Donald and Daisy count the red and yellow M&Ms per bag for 70 bags. The results show that the average number of red M&Ms was 17.49 with a variance of 88.74 and the average number of yellow M&Ms was 20.24 with a variance of 75.45.  Is there sufficient evidence to support Donald conviction? Use a = .05 level of significance. What is the p-value of your test statistic?
