I know the answer for this is 30 degrees but in a variation of the same problem, what would say the distance between start and finish be? Please EXPLAIN!

My prof said there would possibly be variations of review questions so this would really help.. Thanks!
19. A girl wishes to swim across a river to a point directly opposite as shown. She can swim m/s in still water and the river is flowing at 1 m/s. At what angle 0 with respect to joining the starting and finishing points should she swim? the line Fini sh 1 mis Start A) 30° B) 45° C) 60° D) 63° E) 90

Solution

To reach the finish point across the river, she need to swim at speed of 1 m/s opposite to the current. Here, she is swimming at the speed of 2 m/s. This can be considered as the length of the diagonal and 1m/s is can be taken as the length from the end of diagonal to the finish point.

Therefore,\'

Sinx=1/2

x=arcsin(1/2)

=30 degrees is the answer.
