How can healthcare professionals get people to understand the importance of immunization after the disease is eradicted or no longer a threat

The first and foremost goal of vaccination is no doubt to eradicate an infectious disease worldwide but the risk factor remains as infectious diseases are related to environmental imbalances. The main micro-organisms that are responsible for infectious diseases are viruses and bacteria which multiply very fast and is at times beyond control.

Heath professionals should get the people to understand that their unvaccinated children are always at a risk to contact diseases like whooping cough and diphtheria. Moreover, once attacked by these diseases they need more advanced medical treatment to recover. Vaccination removes this risk.

There are some disease like CRS(congenital rubella syndrome) that may be contacted at the pre-natal stage by the baby if the mother is not vaccinated against rubella during pregnancy.

There is always the possibility of an infectious to revive and become an epidemic. Germs are viruses are difficult to control as we have to study the environment that perpetuates them, but vaccinations make the body resistance against these germs.

An unvaccinated child or adult puts others at a risk. Vaccinating the general public also prevents a special group of people like leukaemia patients from getting infected from the surrounding as such patients cannot be immunised.

.Therefore people should be made to understand that immunisation does not only prevent a disease but reduces the risk factor of the disease and protects those who cannot be immunised. We all have a duty towards the society.
