Currently, U.S. electric grid loses power 285 percent more often than in 1984. That’s costing American businesses as much as $150 billion per year. Its inability to withstand nature, between 2008 and 2012, major outages caused by weather increased to 70 to 130 outages per year. Everything points to an inefficient power grid.
Challenges : makeover that could cost between $338 billion and $476 billion. In 2009, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act invested $4.5 billion and private funding to reach a total of $8 billion— which may not be enough.
Earth\'s magnetic field comes from this ocean of iron which is found in the outer core ( just outside of the hot inner most core of the earth). The rotation of earth causes coriolois effects, which generates whirlpools in the outer core. This leads to the existence of earth\'s magnetic field thourgh an effect called dynamo effect. Scientists have made a computer program to mimic earth. As the magnetic field flips, it does not vanish. \"It just gets more complicated\". A south magnetic pole might emerge over Africa, for instance, or a north pole over Tahiti. Weird. Tahiti could be a great place to see the Northern Lights. The South Pacific would be warm instead of being freezing cold.
