Points (6, -2) and (a, 6) are on the line with a slope of 4/3. What is the value of a ?

Solution

(6,-2) and (a,6) are on the line with a slope 4/3.

The slope m of the line joining (x1,x2) and (y1, y2) is

m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1).

Therefore slope of the line joining (6,2) and (a,2) is

m = (6- -2)/(a-6) equals 4/3 aas given.

8/(a-6) = 4/3

8*3 = 4(a-6)

24 = 4a-24

24+24 = 4a

4a = 48

a = 48/4 = 12
