What is the difference between Pili and Fimbriae?
Solution
Fimbriae Pili Fimbriae are tiny bristle like fibres emerging from the surface of bacterial cells. Pili are hair like microfibers that are thick tubular structure made up of pilin protein. They are thin and are shorter than pili. They are thicker and longer than fimbriae. Present in both gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Present only in gram negative bacteria. They are responsible for cell to surface attachment. They are responsible for bacterial conjugation.
