Researchers want to determine if using nicotine patches are effective in improving the success rate of those trying to quit smoking (proportion of those who quit smoking for more than 30 continuous days). They perform a controlled experiment where one group receives the nicotine patch while the other group receives a patch without medication (placebo). What is the appropriate set of hypothesis statements that should be used to evaluate whether or not the nicotine patch is more effective in helping patients quit smoking. In order to use the techniques of inference, we must have a sample of data from the population of interest. Ideally this sample should be and of the population we wish to make estimates/conclusions of.
Solution
20.)p =proportion of people who quit smoking for more than 30 continuous days
H0 : p = 0. H1 : p > 0
21.) Symmetric and unimodal
