A manufacturing company defines the tolerance on their manufacturing process time as 60.15 ± 3.25 minutes. The standard deviation is measured as 1.65 minutes and the average manufacturing time is 60.22 minutes. The manufacturing line supervisor wants to know the process capability for their manufacturing line and wants to achieve three sigma performance. Is the manufacturing line capable of this level of performance?

Solution

we have an average of 60.22 and standard deviation of 1.65

if we wants 3 sigma the formula will be

60.22 + 3 * 1.65 = 65.17

60.22 - 3* 1.65 = 55.27

the tolerance on their manufacturing procces time is

56.9 and 63.4

as we can see our values of the proccess fall out of the tolerance so we can say that the manufacturing line is not capable of this level of performance
