Uniform motion problem. Suppose that you are walking along the side of train tracks at 2mph. A train is traveling 20mph in the same direction requires 1 minute to pass you. How long is the train?

Solution

Velocity = Distance / Time,,,,or d = v * t
.
In this case the relative velocity is (20-2) = 18 mph
.
d = 18mph * t ,,,,but t= 1 min,, or 1/60 hr
.
d = 18 mph * 1/60 hr
.
d = .3 miles
