Describe and correct the error given the functions fx 3x 5

Describe and correct the error, given the functions f(x) = 3x -5 and g(x) = 1/3 - 4/3x. Please be sure to describe the error. Thanks!

A.) f(5) = 3(5) - 5

       5f = 15 - 5

       5f = 10

       f = 2

B.) g(0) = 1/3 - 4/3

       = -3/3

       = -1

Solution

We have f(x) = 3x - 5 and g(x) = 1/3 - (4/3)x.

A.) f (5) = 3*5 - 5 = 15 - 5 = 10 The error is at the 3rd step as f (5) 5f . It should be f(5) only.

B.) g (0) = 1/3 - (4/3)*0 = 1/3 - 0 = 1/3 . The error is at the 1st step itself as 4/4 has not been multiplied by 0 ( x = 0).

Describe and correct the error, given the functions f(x) = 3x -5 and g(x) = 1/3 - 4/3x. Please be sure to describe the error. Thanks! A.) f(5) = 3(5) - 5 5f = 1
