I am really struggling with what to do here. If you could explain the steps to take to understanding what is bening asked and what to do that would b very much appreciated. Thanks!!

Find the magnitude of the coefficient on the factor (or combination of factors) that has the largest impact on the system output for the values below.

Solution

We can find the magnitude of the coefficient on the factor by using regression analysis.

As there are two factors x1 and x2 which are independent and our output is dependent on x1 and x2.

output= a+b1x1+b2x2

So multilple linear regression equation can be obtained by excel:

Goto

Data tab -> Data analysis -> Regression

Then a dilouge box will open

Select Y range as Output column

X range -> both columns of x1 and x2.

Click on Ok.

Then we get

The last table shows the value of intercept a and coefficients b1 and b2.

Therefore regression line is

output= 1.25-26.25x1-11.25x2

Hence coefficient b1= -26.25 has the largest impact on the system output.
