Hi Please help with terminal velocity equations The equation
Hi, Please help with terminal velocity equations;
The equation for terminal velocity is v= (2mg/AC)
Wherein:
v = terminal velocity (m/s)
m = mass (kg)
g = gravity (9.8 m/s2)
r = density (for air at sea level we will use 1.5 kg/m3)
A = cross-sectional area of the object (for our scenario, we will use a cube with A=1.5 m2)
C = drag co-efficient (we will use 1.05 for the drag co-efficient of a cube)
Your job:
.Calculate the terminal velocity of five cubes. You may need to convert!
Cube #1 has a mass of 2000 g.
Cube #2 has a mass of 4000 g.
Cube #3 has a mass of 5 kg.
Cube #4 has a mass of 6 kg.
Cube #5 has a mass of 0.479652 slugs.
Your answer for “v” should have four decimal places.
1. *****Please show step by step Instruction on how solve the equation for terminal velocity*******
2. *****Please show the equation used in excel on how to determine Terminal Velocity*************
Thank you, Donna
Solution
v= (2mg/AC)
Wherein:
v = terminal velocity (m/s)
m = mass (kg)
g = gravity (9.8 m/s2)
r = density (for air at sea level we will use 1.5 kg/m3)
A = cross-sectional area of the object (for our scenario, we will use a cube with A=1.5 m2)
So, sustituting the constants given :
v = ( 2*m*9.8/1.5*1.5*1.05) = 2.88(m)
Cube #1 has a mass of 2000 g= 2kg
v = 2.88sqrt(2) = 4.07 mt/sec
Cube #2 has a mass of 4000 g= 4kg
v = 2.88sqrt(4) = 5.76 mt/sec
Cube #3 has a mass of 5 kg.
v = 2.88sqrt(5) = 5.7 m/sec
Cube #4 has a mass of 6 kg.
v = 2.88sqrt(6) = 7.05m/sec
Cube #5 has a mass of 0.479652 slugs
1slug = 14.59kg
So, 0.479652 slugs = 7kg
v = 2.88sqrt(7) = 7.62 m/sec
