24 mixtures
| In an article, the following values of fracture stress (in megapascals) were measured for a sample of 24 mixtures of hot-mixed asphalt (HMA).52, 58, 62, 76, 80, 100, 121, 123, 140, 144, 158, 184, 187, 191, 199, 236, 246, 247, 249, 254, 260, 265, 351, 371 Find the 65th percentile of the asphalt data. |
Solution
here we have a sample of 24 data.
the data is arranged in an increasing way.
65th percentile means that value under which 65% of the data exists.
so 65% of 24 is- 24*65/100=15.6
so here 65th percentile is that value under which 15.6 number of data exists.
so the problem can be tackled in two ways
case-1(unique answer)
if we want an unique answer then we use this formula..
15th value*0.6+16th value*0.4=199*0.6+236*0.4=213.8 [answer]
case-2(not unique answer)
then we say that the data has two 65th percentile that is the 15th value and the 16th value i.e, 199 and 236 [answer]
