Why is vegetable oil in the form of biofuel used in diesel engines but not in gasoline engines?

This phenomenon makes it suitable for its use in compression ignition (diesel) engines as the fuel in the diesel engine also ignites when it reaches certain threshold pressure.

On the contrary, the gasoline or petrol works on spark ignition phenomenon.

Generally biofuels are used blended with diesel for obtaining the required ignition properties.
