I would like the procedure for solving this problem. The answers are in the parentheses.

For the circuit to the right, find the equivalent resistance, the battery voltage, and the power developed in the 10.0 ohm resistor. (R_eq = 5.00 ohm; Delta V_b = 10.0 V; P_10 = 10.0 W)

Solution

two 5 ohm resistors are in series. so their equivalent R\' will be

R\' = 5 + 5 = 10 ohm

now R\' and lower 10 ohm are in parallel connection,
hence

1/Req = 1/R\' + 1/10 = 1/10 + 1/10

Req = 5 ohm .......Ans

voltage of battery = I Req = 2 x 5 = 10 volts .....Ans

in prallel connection, all branches have same voltage.

so both branches will have PD same as emf of battery.

hence PD across 10ohm = 10 V

Power = V^2 / R = 10^2 / 10 = 10 W
