Could someone show me how to do this problem step by step?

Given the linear correlation coefficient r and the sample size n, determine the critical values of r and use your finding to state whether or not the given r represents a significant linear correlation. use a significance level of 0.05.

r = 0.0812, n = 9

Thanks!

Solution

from table here: http://www.gifted.uconn.edu/siegle/research/correlation/corrchrt.htm

we can look up df=9-2 = 7 and significance level 0.05 to get critical value of +/-0.666, and since our sample correlation coefficient is not greater than +0.666 nor less than -0.666, we fail to reject null hypothesis of zero correlation and conclude that the linear correlation is not significant.
