question help me find the answers for this homework thanks a

question

help me find the answers for this homework ..thanks alot

Solution

1.

As

SS = 6000

Then

s = standard deviation = sqrt(SS/(n-1)) = 20

Formulating the null and alternative hypotheses,

Ho:   u   =   81
Ha:    u   =/   81

As we can see, this is a    two   tailed test.

Thus, getting the critical t,
df = n - 1 =    15
tcrit =    +/-   2.131449546

Getting the test statistic, as

X = sample mean =    85
uo = hypothesized mean =    81
n = sample size =    16
s = standard deviation =    20

Thus, t = (X - uo) * sqrt(n) / s =    0.8

Also, the p value is

p =    0.436197939

Comparing t and tcrit (or, p and significance level), we   FAIL TO REJECT THE NULL HYPOTHESIS.
Thus, there is no significant evidence that there is a change in holiday spending.
