1) breifly describe the effect of heat on bone and explain the chemical basis of that effect
2)breifly describe the effects of acid on bone and explain the chemical basis of that effect
Solution
Solution:
Bones mainly consists of inorganic components like hydroxyapatite and organic components like collagen.
(A)Effect of heat on the bones-
Bones inorganic component hydroxyapatite is so hard and brittle and organic components is flexible. When bones are heated on high temperature their organic components burns out and only hydroxyapatite left behind. So,after heating bones become very weak(loose holding of hydroxyapatite) and brittle.
(B)Effect of acid on bones-
When bones are exposed to acids.Their inorganic component hydroxyapatite is destroyed and only collagen left behind. So,bones are very flexible due to absence of hydroxyapatite.
