8 Find the indicated probability by using the complementatio
8. Find the indicated probability by using the complementation rule.
Based on meteorological records, the probability that it will snow in a certain town on January 1st is 0.488. Find the probability that in a given year it will not snow on January 1st in that town.
2.049
0.953
1.488
0.512
Solution
According to the fundamental theorem of probability the sum of probability of an event and the probability of its complement event is = 1.
So, for the given case-
Probability that it will snow + Probability that it will not snow = 1
We are given that the probability of snow = 0.488.
Hence, probability that it will not snow = 1 - 0.488 = 0.512
