In a somatic cell from a dog that is undergoing mitosis, how many chromosomes would be aligned on the equatorial plane during metaphase?
In a somatic cell from a dog that is undergoing mitosis, how many chromosomes would be aligned on the equatorial plane during metaphase?

Solution

Number of diploid chomosome in dogs is 78.

We know that in mitosis occuring in somatic cells , number of chromosomes remain the same in the diploid number., that is it is an equational division.

Thus on equatorial plate plate in the metaphase of mitosis, number of homologus chomosome will be 78.

The number of diploid chromosomes is equal to number of homologous chomosomes.
