If the cell was compared to a factory, how would you describe the different cellular organelles in terms of its departments (listed below)? Also, Explain why you chose that department for a particular organelle.
i) Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
ii) Factory floor
iii) Assembly line (where workers do their work)
iv) Workers in the assembly line
v) Finishing/packaging department
vi) Maintenance crew
vii) Support beams (walls, ceilings, floors)
viii) Power plant
ix) Shipping/Receiving Department

Solution

I. CEO will be the nucleus, since all the activities of the cell were controlled by it by producing the specific enzyme for specific activities by transcribe the specific gene. And it regulates when to activate or deactivate the genes.

ii. Factory floor will be the cytoplasm where all other cell organelles present. Sometimes, space within the cell organelles also acts as floor.

iii. Assembly line will be each cell organelle such as mitochondria, golgi apparatus, ER, Chloroplast etc., for example in Chloroplast glucose is going to synthesize, so Chloroplast is a working floor.

iv. Workers in the assembly line will be ribosome, mRNA, proteins (enzymes), ATP synthase etc.

v. Finishing and packaging department will be Golgi complex. Because it involved in packaging of materials (protein from ER) into vesicles and transported.

vi. Maintains crews will be enzymes in all organelles and in cytoplasm. Because enzymes regulates all the chemical reactions occurs in the cell.

vii. Support beams were cell membrane, cytoskeleton, cytoplasm. Cytoplasm act as actual floor for all chemical reactions, cell membrane acts as boundaries, cytoskeleton acts as beam or roof.

viii. Power house is none other than Mitochondria, where ATP is going to synthesise.

ix. Shipping and receiving department will be cell membrane in the form of exocytosis and endocytosis.
