Hello, I have a questions about genetics im very confused please help me if you can with explanation,
Thank you beforehand!
1) Two short-haired mice mate and produce six short-haired and two long-haired baby mice. What does this information suggest about how hair length is inherited in mice?
2) In the cross between female Aa Bb cc Dd ee and male Aa bb Cc Dd ee, what proportion of the progeny will A] be phenotypically identical to the female parent? B] genotypically identical to the male parent?
Solution
1) So, let the trait responsible for short hair be \'s\' and long hair be \'S\'.
Now, the short haired allele is dominant here.
Hence, the genotype of the mice are \'sS\' and \'sS\'.
When they mate, we get \'ss, sS, sS, SS\', where the SS will be long haired mice.
2)
So, for phenotypically similar to female, P= 3/4*1/2*1/2*3/4*1= 9/64
and genotypically similar to male, P= 1/2*1/2*1/2*1/2*1= 1/16
I hope this answers your question.
Ping me if you need further help.
Please leave a thumbs up.
