When you walk through a forest, you see fungi everyone. Fungi are heterotrophs so they can\'t make their own food like plants. Describe how a fungi growing on a tree in a forest is getting its food.

Fungi comprise of various sub-species, each having their own mechanisms for obtaining nutrition. They are psychrophilic organisms - meaning they can grow as long as there are simple sugars and moisture present in the environment.

Most fungi form a symbiotic relationship with higher plant species. They obtain their nutrition directly from the trees, and in exchange produce secondary metabolites, which may protect the host tree from predation/ infection by other other organims.

Other species are parasitic by nature, and depend upon the trees for their nutrition. They also possess the ablity to ability to trap small oragnisms like nematodes with the help of their extensilvely branched hyphae.

Therefore, even though many species do not have chlorophyll for photosynthesis, they can sustain either through symbiotic or parasitic relationship with host trees.
