Below are the boxplot and pplot for a dataset Based on these graphs describe the shape of the data. Based your answer in part (a) which would be the most appropriate measures of center and dispersion for this dataset

Solution

a) based on the boxplot , we can clearly see medain=Q2 is closer to Q1 than Q3..i.e, more values are on the Q2-Q3 side ..so, the data set is right skewed!
And THERE is 1 outlier which can lead to a abnormal characteristics of the dataset!

and from the pp plot , we can see without the outlier , the data is normal is nature!



b) the data is highly right skewed..

so, as mean does get effected by skewness and outliers, median is the most appropriate measure of central tendency and inter quantile range / IQR would be the most appropriate measure of dispersion!
