1) Your company has designed a new product and provided you with an appropriate test vehicle for you to address the question of fatigue: In use the product will vary in temperature between 22C and 60C, once every 20 minutes, 8 hours each day. It will also be exposed to constant vibration to a certain level during the entire 8 hours. The plan is to sell 100 million units of the product. They want you to make sure all of them will survive 20 years on use. There is no perfect solution to this, but they conduct standard accelerated tests on 32 test vehicles and come up with times to fail for 16 in thermal cycling between -40C and 125C and 16 in vibration at the resonance frequency at an acceleration of 4G. What else do you need, and what you do with it if you have it (explain)?
Solution
Definations of Fatique: when any product , material is subjected to fluctualing load conditions , that is stresses which are reversal in nature are applied then fatique is observed. fatique is one of the undesirable phenomenon just like creep because it will shorten the material life but will help to provide appropriate knowldge of material how it will last after processing and underfull operating condition.
Problem Statement: As a problem stating that \"A company has decided to launch a new product , which is a vehicle ,is undergoing fatique test . the product is required to sustain 220 - 600 C temperature till 8 hours each day and continiously exposed to fluctuating stresses.but it has been observed that from 32 vehicle , half of them failed the test .
Answer: In order to sustain a fatique test , there are some very important key point which are needed to be attain. they are as follows:
1. Material selection: Material can be selected on the basis of its objective , with good research and knowledge of material science.
2. Heat treatment Techniques: primarily , heat treatment play a crucial role as it is a first mechanical method which is applied on material.
3. Detection of cracks and removal of impurities: proper Non destructive testing and destructive testing is conducted such as image sesing , XRD , colour penetration test so as to detect nucleaction and crack formation.
so , we need to re define the all procedure or improve the previous one so that all the vehicle based on new product can achieve highest possible result in fatique test.
