Can someone pleae help me,Im busy with my assignment Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering 1 MME1501.
4.1) You are a Mechanical Engineer in a steel manufacturing industry and expected to make a presentation to your clients on your manufacturing process, prepare a five-page PowerPoint slides of what you will use to discuss?
I dont need to draw up an actual powerpoint slide,I just need to wride down what in each slide will be and discuss it.
Solution
>> Steel Manufacturing is basically done in four stages :
1). Iron Making
2). Steel making
3). Continuous Casting
4). Rolling
>> Now, Iron Making is to produce iron from iron ores by following methods :
a). Coke Oven Sinter : Here, iron ore is first dubjected to sintring process
b). Direct Reduction : An Alternative to the blast furnace technique
c). Smelting Reduction : Ores are partly reduced in the first step and then final reduction and melting takes place in the second step
>> Now, Steel is produced from iron by :
1). Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) Type
>> Hot metal from the Blast furnace, which is apear shaped furnace or reduced iron from thesmelting plant is fed in
to the Basic OxygenFurnace (BOF) after pre-treatment to removeundesired elements like sulfur, silicon or phosphorous
>> Molten Steel in liquid form is obtained.
>> Impurities go out in gaseous form and as slag
2). Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) Type
>> Steel scrap is melted using heat generatedwith the aid of an electric arc produced bygraphite electrodes.
>> In this technique, the output is crude steelwhich is used in either ingots or fed in thecontinuous casting process cycle
>> Now, Continuous Steel Casting Process
Liquid steel is directly cast into semi-finished products, which eliminates theneed for primary rolling of ingots.
The crude steel or liquid steel is pouredinto a reciprocating refractory-linedreceptacle, called a Tundish
>> BFinished STeels are classified into two types :
1). Finished Carbon Steel
2). Finished Alloy Steel
