Forecasting is very much a learning–by–doing discipline. It should come as no surprise that at the end of the class I want you to undertake a forecast. The variable I want you to forecast is Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth. I provide you with a data set giving you a rich set of observations related to the task at hand. The data includes GDP and its components as well as some interest rates. You should run any and all tests appropriate whether I suggest them or not. I want the forecast to run to the end of 2016. I will give you some specific requirements for the forecast and give you an opportunity to display some creativity of your own. You will provide me with the statistical output, do files, and your own interpretation as required. As always, ask me any questions as you have them.

1. I want you to run an appropriately specified VAR for GDP growth (gdp) and the difference in the 12–month treasury rate (d.t12). (a) (10 points) What tests did you run and what did they tell you? (b) (10 points) Provide me with regression output and explain what it tells you.
