Draw cells from the Gram-Stained slides, and label each bacterial species. Based on your results, note the Gram reaction, cell shape, and cell arrangement of each as the given table. Verify these results to determine if you are correct.

Solution

Gram\'s staining is a differential staining, in which it can differentiate bacteria into Gram positive and Gram negative based on the properties of cell wall of Bacteria. Gram positive cells take Crystal violet and appear in Violet or Blue colour under microscope, where as Gram negative cells take Saffranin and appear as Pink or Red color under micro scope.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a common Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium

Staphylococcus aureus is a gram-positive, round-shaped bacterium

Bacillus megaterium is a rod-like, Gram-positive

Escherichia coli is a gram-negative, rod-shaped

Moraxella catarrhalis is a fastidious, nonmotile, Gram-negative, aerobic.

Bacteria with Pink/Red Color: Moraxella catarrhalis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa(Gram Negative)

Bacteria with Violet/Blue Color: Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus megaterium (Gram Positive)
