List the types of cell junctions found in animal tissue vs. those found ill plant tissue. State three ways that simple diffusion, facilitated diffusion and active transport across a cell membrane differ.(make a table that includes up or down gradient, +/-energy need, and +/- carrier need)

Solution

1).

“Junction proteins” assist cell-to-cell communication. For example, the adhesion junctions present in the bladder makes the cells bound together, when the bladder swells with urine.

Epithelial cells of animals are connected together by various cell junctions such as tight junctions, adhering junctions and gap junctions. Gap junctions allow the passage of ions and some specific molecules across one cell to another, thus they provide cell-to-cell communication. Connexions are a group of proteins that form gap junctions.

Plants have plasmodesmata instead of gap junctions that provide cell-to-cell communication. Plasmodesmata and gap junctions are communicating channels between adjacent cells, they are several in numbers per cell, and their size is within nano meters (nm).
