Calcitonin is mainly a protein hormone which is secreted in thyroid gland.Its main role in our body is to increase the volume of bone calcium.It maintain blood calcium levels.It is responsible for development and growth of the body.It is more important to adolescent than adults because it is growth factor for the adolescents and body is highly responsive to this up to this age.But after adolescent,body response to this hormone is very less and it is very less effective in adulthood.So,our body bones developed mostly up to adolescent age with the support of calcitonin hormone.
