On one hand it is well established that most mutations are deleterious but on the other hand it is quite true that a few mutations are beneficial also due to the fact that these mutations provide genetic variation that is the basis of evolution. If these mutations don’t occur, evolution would come to a halt. If a mutation occurs and it better adopts the organism to the environment, the mutation will prove advantageous and this gene will be inherited to offsprings which will have more chances to survive and reproduce and will increase its genotypic frequency and this gene will be so well established that it will result species that live more stronger with better adaptability to the environment. If it is put in other words we can say these mutations are indispensable for evolution and provide a raw material to genetic variation. On the other hand, if the mutation occurs and makes an organism susceptible to the environment, the animal will find difficult to survive and reproduce and there is lesser probability for that gene to inherit to off springs. For instance fish that are red colored are easily seen and eaten by predators and cannot reproduce fully. The other two clear-colored fish are not seen and eaten by predators and therefore survive and hence reproduce fully. These fish, therefore, will be able to survive and reproduce with each other resulting in more offsprings that will be able to face the circumstances. Finally, these well adapted clear-colored fish will continue to flourish and reproduce.
