A class of 4 students are working together on a tough problem for Problem solving class. The chance of any given student solving the problem independently are as follows:

Kendall = .05

Stephanie = .45

Alex = .10

Brandon = .08

Assume that once a student gets the problem figured out, the results will be shared among all the other students. What is the probability the problem gets solved?

Solution

Kendall (solve)= .05

Stephanie (solve)= .45

Alex (solve)= .10

Brandon(solve) = .08

Probability (atleast one solving)=1 - p(none solving it)

Kendall (not solving)= .95

Stephanie (not solving)= 0.55

Alex (not solving)= 0.90

Brandon(not solving) = 1-0.08 =0.92

P(none solving)=0.95x0.55x0.9x0.92=0.4326

Probability (atleast one solving)=1 - 0.4326=0.5674
