The sun is 50 Degree above the horizon. Find the length a shadow cast by a park statue that is 20 feet tall. Round to the nearest foot. An engineer erects a 100-foot cellular telephone tower.Find the angle of elevation to the top of the tower at a point on level at a point on level ground 70 feet away from its base its base.

Solution

14).The given angle is 50 degrees

Let L be a shadow tan50=20/L

shadow will be L is = 20/(tan50degrees)=20/1.1917535=16.78199=16.78 feet

15). Let angle of elevation be theat and height of cellular telephone tower is 100 feet and length is 70

tan(theata)=100/70-----(1)

Let x be the top of the tower height and angle of elevation be theat

then tan(theata)=x/70----(2)

from above equations we get x=100 feet

therefore tan(theata)=100/70=10/7

theata =tan inverse of (10/7)
