7)Two cyclists, 108 mi apart, start riding towards each other at the same time. One cycles twice as fast as the other. If they meet 4 hr later, at what average speed is each cyclist traveling?

Solution

Distance travelled by the two cyclists = 108mi

Let speed of slower cyclist be x mph

faster cyclist be 2x mph

They meet after 4hrs:

x*4 +2x*4 = 108

12x = 108

x = 9 mph ----> ( slower cyclist)

2x = 18mph -----> ( faster cyclist)
