Find the area in square meters of the shaded region using x1

Find the area (in square meters) of the shaded region using x1 = 3.2, y1 = 6.4, x2 = -5.7, y2 = 1.6, all in meters. Use 3 or 4 significant figures for your answer. 37.12m

Solution

The area of the shaded figure would be equal to the sum of area of rectangle and the area of triangle. The area of rectangle would be calculated by multiplying the width and length of the rectangle.

Arearectangle = 3.2*6.4 = 20.48

The area of rectangle would be 0.5 times the size of base and height. Hence the area of triangle would be given by,

Areatriangle = 0.5*5.7*6.4 = 18.24

Hence the area of shaded region would be given as,

Area = 20.48 + 18.24 = 38.72
